Despite Icelandic volcanic ash disrupting European flights, which is having a knock-on effect to property markets worldwide, and the recent political problems in Bangkok, life here on Koh Samui seems business as usual. Richard Bransons interest in Phuket and Koh Samui property

Richard Branson’s V Australia airline recently began regular flights to Phuket sending speculators buzzing at the suggestion of a significant new property investment by the multi-millionaire tycoon into Asia With an established personal collection in the Virgin Islands, and the Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda, buying property in Phuket certainly wouldn’t be bucking the trend as far as his airlines go, `where the airlines go, so goes Richard,’ commented a financial consultant long associated with Branson’s airlines, `I understand he’s been looking at Koh Samui aswell.’ Representatives of Mr Branson – the world’s 261st richest person, according to Forbes… Read more »

Thai confidence picking up

The Thailand Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) rose for the second consecutive month in January. November 2008 saw the Index at its lowest (74.2) since January 2002, but since then it rose to 74.8 (December) and 75.2 (January). The survey was undertaken by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC). The results are believed to show an increase in hope amongst the Thai public partly due to economic stimulus measures introduced by the government, and also due to the current low fuel prices.
